Ordering Information

This test is indicated for non-alloimmunised RhD negative pregnant women for prediction of fetal RhD status. This test is to be collected at ≥15 weeks gestation. Refer to Lifeblood for RhD NIPT ordering information. 

This test is not to be confused with Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing for Aneuploidy.

Collection Instructions

All Fetal RhD requests are accepted; however, eligibility for testing requires the patient to be ≥15 weeks gestation. Requests submitted for patients under 15 weeks’ gestation that do not meet testing criteria, may not be accepted.

Please adhere to the below instructions:

  1. This test is time criticalSpecimen must be collected afternoons between Sunday-Tuesday ONLY in order to reach the referral laboratory within the required timeframe (72 hours).
  2. Do NOT collect the day before a public holiday.
  3. Record Gestation age in weeks on referral for request to be accepted for testing.
  4. COLLECT 
    • 1 x DEDICATED 9 mL EDTA tube AND
    • 1 x DEDICATED Streck - Cell Free DNA BCT

WHOLE BLOOD SPECIMEN - DO NOT CENTRIFUGE.

Instructions for: Regional Specimen Receptions

  • Send 9 mL EDTA and Streck - Cell Free DNA BCT directly to the Heidelberg Laboratory. Do NOT aliquot.
  • If only one tube is received or 2 x 4mL EDTA, DO NOT REJECT. Refer to Heidelberg Laboratory for review.

Instructions for: Heidelberg Specimen Reception

  • Store samples in 4°C sendout fridge.
  • If only one tube is received or 2 x 4ml EDTA, DO NOT REJECT. Refer to Heidelberg Sendaways.
