Extended B cell panel analysis includes memory B cells.

Please also request a Full Blood Examination (FBE), as this is required to quantitate absolute values and must be collected at the same time.

For routine B cell analysis, please request lymphocyte subsets, including B cells, refer to Lymphocyte Subsets - Flow Cytometry (Blood).

Collection Instructions
  • Please collect DEDICATED 1 x Lithium Heparin (no gel) tube AND 1 x EDTA tube. 
  • This test is time critical, sample must reach the referral laboratory within 24 hours from collection. 
  • Specimen must only be collected afternoons, SUNDAY-THURSDAY. DO NOT COLLECT THE DAY BEFORE A PUBLIC HOLIDAY.

  • Specimen can be collected at any metropolitan collection centre. Please refer to instructions above.

WHOLE BLOOD SPECIMEN - DO NOT CENTRIFUGE.

  • Forward sample to the Heidelberg Laboratory, Sendouts.

Instructions for: Heidelberg Specimen Reception

  • Place sample in Room Temperature Sendout tub. 
  • If a sample is collected outside of the specified collection timeframe or if dedicated samples are not collected, forward the sample to Sendouts.
  • DO NOT REJECT SAMPLES. DO NOT ORGANISE A RECOLLECTION WITHOUT CONSULTING FLOW CYTOMETRY STAFF (ph: 03 9496 5909).

  • FBE to be performed locally. Please forward a copy of the FBE result with the sample.
  • If there are any queries regarding the test or specimen suitability, please discuss with the Immunopathologist.
